Creperie Broceliande - Damn Fine Crepes in Montmartre

Creperie Broceliande

The days pre requisites were finding tasty, affordable crepes and seeing a little more of this wonderful place we now call home. You will see we achieved both in a way that made us all happy little campers.
More about the above photo later. We just wanted to make you hungry for crispy and amazing crepes first...

Montmartre

We'd left the house with the intention of showing Maynard and Zoe a few of the things that we found gobsmacking about Montmartre. This cobbled road leads to one of them...

Montmartre winrery

This being where the above road leads. It is a quaint and oddly placed vineyard tangled amongst the outskirts of Montmartre's tourist area on the way to the Sacre Coeur and is said to be Paris' only inner city vineyard. This tiny field of vines also houses a temple for the Greek god of wine and good times Dionysus. Around here you will also find Le Chat Noir, Picasso's studio and...

Le Moulin de la Galette. The inspiration behind Pablo Picasso's painting of the same name. Makes sense he, Renoir and Van Gogh should paint scenes of this historic windmill. After all it was one of Paris' hot spots in days past. It played host to many a 19th century dance party (the good kind that had impressive dresses and dapper men rather than glow sticks and bad pants)

and offered a place for men and women who were in search of a glass of wine, a dance and a galette made from wheat ground in the the onsite mill. However today it is made up of a bistro and private property.

Just a little of what we get to see most every day.

We were musing about how if you'd put colourful ceramics on a street wall in Perth they wouldn't last a day without some 15 year old punk tagging and smashing it. Hence this gallery display of ceramic pots, butterflies and other more abstract pieces adorning the outside of the building amazed us. The little things I tells ya.

Mur des je t'aime

At the Abbesses metro entrance to Square Jehan Rictus or Abbesses garden as it is otherwise known. A 2000m+ park created in 1936 to honour Gabriel Randon de Saint-Amand, a French poet. The park also houses the famous Mur des je t'aime (seen to the right and below).

Mur des je t'aime 2

Frédéric Baron's The I love you wall. A tribute to lovers with the words 'I love you' ingrained upon it in 300+ languages.

Montmartre 5

Muson River 1894. A tourist train designed to haul lazy tourists and their children around the beautiful Montmartre. I'm not sure how much you'd really get to SEE, more designed for looking I guess. Regardless, it's cute and a train. Wooot!

And now onto the crepes. FINALLY!

Creperie Broceliande 3

We came across this place towards the outskirts of Montmartre and bordering Moulin Rouge territory after walking around for hours on end. We were all hungry and looking for food and drinks. Duh!

Creperie Broceliande 5

After much deliberation (the menu is laden with traditional flavour combos to make your mouth water) we had each decided on the set which included a cider bowl, which was as the name suggests a delicious bowl of 5% traditional style dry cider, a savoury crepe or salad and a sweet crepe or ice-cream. And all for 9.80€ Woooo! Lloyd's ham, champignon and cheese crepe and Sophie's tuna salad can be seen above. Also our cider bowls.
Mmmm

The salted caramel crepe and the dark and ever so tasty ice-cream and empty bowls.

Everyone was well chuffed with their super satisfying bargain lunch.

This is the business card and opening hours in case you're ever in the area and in need of a nice place to sit, enjoy a fresh crepe and a bowl of cider, because let's face it, who doesn't like being a little tipsy at midday?

Montmartre 7

With full stomachs and a spring in our step we head out to further explore.

Another vine covered building in another picturesque Montmartre street. It will never get old.

We covered a lot of ground this day and were in need of a follow up to our lunch time cider bowls, so we headed home and got ready for the Paris night time, where it is always time for a drink of sorts.
